New Delhi: An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 Richter scale rocked the east coast of Honshu in Japan at 15:17 pm (local time) on Sunday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said. According to a report by news agency ANI, the focus of the earthquake was at a depth of around 16.8 km in the SSE of Katsuura in Japan. However, no casualties have been reported yet. Another earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 Richter scale hit Fukushima along other places in Japan’s east and northeast, at around 12.24 pm (local time) on Sunday.
According to the report, the focus of this earthquake was at a depth of about 30 km in the Pacific off Ibaraki Prefecture.
On the Japanese seismic intensity scale, it registered a lower 5 to 7 in the city of Iwaki in Fukushima.
Moreover, in some other parts of Fukushima, it registered 4 and 3 in the neighbouring prefectures of Miyagi, Yamagata, Ibaraki, and Niigata.
However, there was no threat of a tsunami and no injuries or damages were reported as of now, as per the ANI report.
Earlier this month, a strong earthquake struck off the east coast of Taiwan, shaking buildings in the capital Taipei. However, no serious damage or casualties were reported, and the authorities said that there was no danger of a tsunami.
The earthquake’s location was said to be about 44 miles, southwest of the remote island of Yonaguni at the western end of the Japanese archipelago. According to the Japanese Meteorological Agency, the quake measured magnitude 6.6, while the U.S. Geological Survey said it was 6.3.
