New Delhi: Fiancee of the slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi on Friday demanded that all the people involved in his murder at different levels, from highest to the lowest, should be brought to justice soon, media reports said.
Hatice Cengiz who is a Turkish by nationality said to the Haber Turk television station, "I demand that all those involved in this savagery from the highest to the lowest levels are punished and brought to justice."
In an earlier development, Khashoggi’s son left Saudi Arabia after the kingdom revoked a travel ban, allowing him to come to the United States.
Saudi royals had imposed a travel ban on Khashoggi’s son Salah Khashoggi a year ago. However, amid the stern criticisms, the regime decided to revoke the ban.
Khashoggi, prominent critic of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman , was killed brutally with his body parts allegedly dismembered, inside Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.
Khashoggi’s family had visited the Saudi King and Crown Prince in Riyadh recently amid the growing criticisms of the Saudi government world over.
US State Department spokesman Robert Palladino said that Washington welcomed the decision to have Salah Khashoggi and his family leave Saudi Arabia. He said Thursday that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had discussed Jamal Khashoggi's son during his recent visit to Riyadh and "made it clear" to Saudi leaders that Washington wanted him free to leave the kingdom, Associated Press reported.
Salah's departure came hours after the public prosecutor's office admitted, based on a report from Turkey, that the killing of Khashoggi had been planned in advance, adding that those responsible for the crime would be punished.
Khashoggi’s killing has stirred worldwide outrage with suspicion looming over Saudi regime’s alleged involvement.
Initially, Saudi Arabia stated that Khashoggi left its consulate alive on Oct. 2, but nearly three weeks later, the Arab kingdom admitted he had been killed at the diplomatic mission's building due to a fight, an account about which several governments have expressed skepticism.
Later, the Saudi prosecutor's office announced that 18 people had been arrested and that the security officials involved in the case had stepped down.
Turkey said it believed a hit squad of Saudi nationals had travelled to Istanbul with the sole purpose of killing Khashoggi, a former member of the Saudi elite who became critical of the current government's administration in his country.
