Jerusalem: Israel's military on Monday announced that it was carrying out strikes on Iranian targets in Syria in the wee hours of Sunday-Monday after it intercepted a rocket fired from Syrian territory hours earlier.


It said in a statement it was "currently striking" the Iranian Revolutionary Guards' Quds Force in Syria and warned Syria's military against "attempting to harm Israeli territory or forces".

Israel's military said on Sunday its air defence systems intercepted a rocket fired form Syria, after Damascus accused Israel of carrying out air raids in the country's south.

Syrian state news agency Sana said its military air defenses had thwarted “hostile targets” and shot down several of them, without elaborating.Witnesses in Damascus said loud explosions rang out in the night sky.

“We have started striking Iranian Quds targets in Syrian territory. We warn the Syrian Armed Forces against attempting to harm Israeli forces or territory,” Israel’s military said in a statement.
