Detroit: A 12-year-old girl from US's Detroit, was hospitalized with severe burns after she participated in what her mother called the "fire challenge."
The girl named Timiyah Landers had poured rubbing alcohol on herself and then lit it on fire.
The trend is said to be taken off on YouTube where people douse themselves in flammable liquid and then set themselves alight before rushing to a bathtub or other body of water to extinguish it, all while filming.
Due to this internet challenge, the girl had burns over 49 per cent of her body. The parents say they got to know about the ‘internet challenge’ after that Timiyah’s friends admitted they had been watching ‘Fire Challenge’ videos on YouTube and decided to give it a go.
It is now said that the girl is currently on a ventilator and can't speak.
In a similar incident that took place last month, a 15-year-old boy suffered second-degree burns after his friends allegedly poured boiling hot water on him in a bid to complete another internet challenge called the 'Hot Water Challenge'.
