After an autopsy, the deaths of the wealthy Indian-origin family in Massachusetts have been ruled murder-suicide by medical authorities.

The deaths of the wealthy Indian-origin family in the US state of Massachusetts have been ruled murder-suicide by medical authorities after an autopsy. According to news agency PTI, the deceased were identified as Rakesh Kamal, 57, Teena Kamal, 54, and their daughter Arianna Kamal, 18. All of them were found dead in their expansive $5 million mansion on December 28.

In a press release, the office of Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey said on Tuesday that autopsy results issued by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirm that Teena and her daughter Arianna were victims of homicide by gunshot, as reported by PTI. Rakesh died from a “gunshot wound consistent with being self-inflicted." The final autopsy report is likely to be completed in the coming weeks.

A firearm was found near Rakesh Kamal. The firearm is consistent with a.40 calibre Glock 22. The firearm,however, was not registered in Rakesh's name, and “he was not licenced to possess it,” the release added, PTI reported. The release further stated that while full forensic and ballistics testing of the gun has not been finalised. Initially considered a case of domestic violence, the investigation did not suggest external involvement, PTI reported.

Massachusetts State Police contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for assistance in determining the origin of the firearm, as reported by PTI.

The incident remains under investigation by Dover and the Massachusetts State Police. Last week, Morrissey said that, as per the initial investigation, the incident was a case of domestic violence and did not indicate the involvement of outside parties.

According to PTI, on December 28, a 911 call was received by Dover Police requesting a response to the Kamal residence at approximately 7:24 p.m by a family member who had stopped by to check on the family. The police found the Kamal family dead when they arrived on the scene. Investigators had worked the crime scene through much of the night. Morrissey has said that there have been no prior police reports or domestic incidents related to the home.

The police are continuing to investigate the deaths of the three family members, PTI reported, citing NBC Boston. The report stated that the medical examiner’s office is still investigating the cause and manner of the deaths.
