New Delhi: With the fate of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government all set to be decided on Sunday, more than 100 members of the Opposition parties have signed the no-confidence motion against National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser.
The Opposition, which has accused Khan of economic mismanagement and foreign-policy bungling, moved the motion to remove the National Assembly Speaker.
“Surprise @AsadQaiserPTI @ImranKhanPTI 😊,” Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari tweeted with the notice of resolution for the National Assembly Speaker’s removal.

- The security personnel have been deployed near Pakistan's National Assembly ahead of the no-confidence vote today.
- Section 144 has been imposed in Islamabad, ANI reported.
- The federal government, according to the Pakistani media, has sacked Punjab Province Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar.
- The deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly will be the acting Governor in the meantime.
- Prime Minister Khan to lead the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers at key no-trust vote proceedings.
- He had earlier decided not to include the PTI members in the Assembly proceedings against him.
- The decision was, however, reversed after consultation with Khan’s confidants and legal experts.
- Pakistan’s Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry claimed that nearly 140 PTI lawmakers were present at the dinner hosted by Khan on Saturday night, Dawn reported.
- He revealed that the government had decided to hold a fully-fledged debate in the National Assembly, adding both the Opposition and treasury members would be provided an opportunity to speak their minds.
- A day ahead of the no-confidence motion, Khan called for peaceful protest by his supporters against what he called an “international conspiracy by the US to oust him”.
