French authorities have detained a man after receiving an alert from the Iranian consulate in Paris that someone had entered carrying an explosive.


French Police said the man has exited the consulate and is being interrogated by police.


According to a report in Reuters, the man was seen at about 11 am entering the consulate, carrying what appeared to be a grenade and explosive vest. 


However, French prosecutors said police found no explosives at the embassy or on the suspect, as per a report in Al Jazeera.


The suspect, who is of Iranian origin, exited the mission of his own accord after appearing to have “threatened violent action” inside, it added.


The area in the capital's 16th district has been cordoned off following the incident and a heavy police presence have been put in place.
