Obama Hails Kamala Harris' Roadmap For US: Has 'Proposed Common Sense Ideas To Grow Economy'

Former President Barack Obama endorsed the Democrat nominee, stating that Harris 'grew up in a middle-class family and understands what it takes to build an economy that lowers costs'.

US Vice-President and Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris has “proposed commonsense ideas to keep our economy growing and working for all of us”, former President Barack Obama said on Thursday, as the US election draws closer.

Taking to social media platform X, he wrote, “Today Kamala Harris proposed commonsense ideas to keep our economy growing and working for all of us. She grew up middle class, and she understands what it takes to build an economy that lowers costs, creates jobs, and puts American workers and families first.” 

As per the Associated Press (AP), in August, during the Democratic National Convention, Obama and Michelle Obama called on the nation to embrace Kamala Harris. “America, hope is making a comeback,” the former first lady declared. She then tore into Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump.

“His limited and narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking, highly educated, successful people who also happened to be Black,” Michelle Obama said about Trump, according to AP.

Barack Obama, the first Black president in US history, insisted the nation was ready to elect Harris, who is of Jamaican and Indian heritage and would be the nation’s first woman president. He also called Trump “a 78-year-old billionaire who hasn’t stopped whining about his problems since he rode down his golden escalator nine years ago". 

“It’s been a constant stream of gripes and grievances that’s actually gotten worse now that he’s afraid of losing to Kamala,” he said.

The former president is said to have taken his time before endorsing Harris for the presidential polls. In July, Obama, who is considered to be Harris' mentor, praised President Joe Biden for deciding to step aside from the presidential race but did not immediately endorse her, reported PTI.

"We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges," the former president said at the time, reported PTI.
