Prime Minister Narendra Modi departs from Dubai, UAE for India, after participating in the COP28 World Climate Action Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the COP-28 Summit in UAE.

PM Narendra Modi and UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan co-hosted a High-level Event on Green Credits Programme at COP28. The event also saw participation of Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson, President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique & European Council president Charles Michel. The programme has been conceptualised as a mechanism to incentivise voluntary pro-planet actions. It envisions issue of Green Credit for plantations on wastelands and river catchment areas to rejuvenate them. PM invited the nations to join this initiative which will promote global cooperation through environment-positive actions. A web platform, which would serve as a repository of policies and best practices that incentivize environment-friendly actions, was also launched."
PM Narendra Modi says, "Today 18 countries and 20 companies are members of this group. In its G20 presidency, India emphasized on global cooperation under circularity strategies. Taking this further ahead, we are adding a new chapter to LeadIT. Today, we are launching LeadIT 2.0..."

To meet the goals of Net Zero, the partnership of government and industry is very important. Industrial innovation is an essential catalyst. For the secure future of Planet Earth, the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT) is a successful example of this partnership between governments and industry. The LeadIT which was started in 2019, is our shared effort so that industry transition receives a boost, low carbon technology and innovation receive a pace & Global South receives this quickly and easily..."

At the COP28 Presidency’s session on Transforming Climate Finance, PM Narendra Modi says, "To fulfill the aspirations of Global South, Climate Finance and Technology are essential. It is the expectation of countries in the Global South that to combat climate change, the developed countries help them as much as possible. This is natural and justified."
PM Narendra Modi says, "India has given utmost priority to sustainable development and climate change. We made 'One Earth, One Family, One Future' the foundation of our (G20) presidency and we were successful in getting consent on several issues, with collective efforts. We all know that countries in the Global South, including India, have had less of a role to play in climate change. But the impact of climate change on them is immense. Despite a lack of resources, these countries are committed towards climate action."
At the COP28 Presidency’s session on Transforming Climate Finance, PM Narendra Modi says, "India welcomes the historic decision to operationalise the Loss and Damage Fund...We hope that with COP Summit, a concrete result will be yielded on other issues related to climate finance...I heartily welcome UAE's announcement of establishing a Climate Investment Fund."

COP host country UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan began the summit by announcing the establishment of “$30 billion dollar fund for global climate solutions”, specifically designed to “bridge the climate finance gap”.

Over 60,000 delegates are expected to attend the COP28 Summit, says UN.
The attendees include: countries party to the UNFCCC, youth activists, representatives of indigenous communities, private sector leaders, NGOs, journalists and many other stakeholders.
Day 1 of the Global Climate Action Summit under COP28 Summit will see over 100 world leaders gathering to discuss and deliver concrete commitments to keep 1.5°C within reach.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have seven bilateral meetings, deliver four speeches and be part of two special initiatives on climate events during his stay in Dubai for around 21 hours, officials said on Friday, reported PTI. This comes as leaders arrive for mega UN climate change conference in UAE that will be held through two weeks till Dec 12.

Members, delegates and diplomats of 200 countries, representatives of various global organisations have reached Dubai to attend the United Nations COP28 Climate Summit to address various changes that mankind is facing at present. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reached Dubai to attend the conference.
Meanwhile, the summit opened with a landmark agreement with delegates approving a climate disaster fund of around $400 million for counting going through the effects of climate change and are not able to tackle the same on their own.
In his Pre-COP opening speech, COP28 President Sultan Al Jaber called for unity, action and multilateralism. Addressing the 70 Ministers and over 100 country delegates present, Sultan was clear: the world needs to do more and seize the opportunity of COP28 to take action and keep 1.5 within reach, as per the COP28 official website.
Prime Minister Modi once again voiced the concerns of the global south in an interview to UAE newspaper, Al-Ittihad.
The Prime Minister called for ensuring that the development priorities of the Global South are not compromised. He said climate action must be based on equity, climate justice, shared obligations and shared capacities.
"By adhering to these principles, we can forge a path toward a sustainable future that leaves no one behind. We must ensure that development priorities of the Global South are not compromised...I am happy that during the recent New Delhi G20 Summit, this aspect has been properly addressed, including through a recognition of the need to rapidly and substantially scale up investment and climate finance from billions to trillions of dollars globally from all sources," the Prime Minister told the newspaper.
