Christchurch mosque shooting: In what could be termed as a deadly massacre, as many as forty-nine people were killed more than 20 severely injured on Friday at two of New Zealand mosques after few gunmen opened fire during the afternoon prayers. According to New Zealand police, 41 people were killed at the Masjid Al Noor and seven at Linwood Masjid Mosque. One of the 40, who was being treated as Christchurch hospital, succumbed to injuries. The heinous act was one of the worst mishaps of 2019 so far and even the New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern referred it to one of country’s darkest days.

Hours after the incident took place, local police apprehended four people – three men and a woman – in connection with the attacks. One person out of the four has been charged with murder and will appear in court tomorrow. Police have also informed that officers intercepted one vehicle with two explosives which were later defused without any further harm. “It does not get more serious than this”, NZ Police Commissioner Mike Bush said.
