New Delhi: About 10 persons were killed and 30 injured in Cambodia inside the Grand Diamond City hotel in Poipet as a fire erupted and raged for several hours.


'About 10 killed, 30 injured' in fire at Cambodia hotel casino on the border with Thailand, news agency AFP reported citing the police.


According to a report by The Mirror, some people were forced to jump out of windows several stories above ground as the fire raged. Purported videos on social media showed people jumping from the burning building.


ABP could not independently check the veracity of the videos.














The visuals that surfaced on social media showed the hotel as being charred and hollowed out.


As per the report, the fire is believed to have erupted around midnight ( 5 pm GMT - 10:30 pm IST).  A partial collapse was reported besides extensive damage as later, firefighters claimed that around 70 per cent of the fire was under control, it mentioned.


53 people were reported to have been rescued till morning as the fire continued, The Mirror stated.


Civilian volunteers joined fire crews in the rescue efforts as around 50 people are believed to be trapped inside the building.


The Mirror reported that the casino staff escaped by walking on the ledges of the building in single file and a crowd of people gathered outside helped them climb down.
