New Delhi: At least 59 police recruits were killed and 116 injured when two militants attacked a police academy in the province of Balochistan in Pakistan on Monday night.
The attack has jolted the region which is already suffering the atrocities of unfriendly Pakistan government. Here we are telling you everything related to the province.
Balochistan's history:
In 1948, Pakistan forcefully occupied Balochistan which has its capital Quetta.
Pakistan has four main regions-Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. In addition, it has a region called FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) whose administration is directly under the control of the Pakistani government.
There is also Gilgit-Baltistan which is considered autonomous region.
Balochistan is in the west. It's one border is with Iran and other with Afghanistan.
Reason of conflict in Balochistan
Before the forceful takeover of Balochistan by Pakistan, there was in a large population of Shia Muslims.
But in the last 10 years, the Pakistani army has killed, reportedly, nearly 20 Baloch people. The Pakistan government, intentionally, is migrating people from Punjab and other regions and settling them here. This consequently is resulting in Baloch people reducing to minority in their own region.
Now, there are Sunni Muslims dominating the region. And in order to keep Baloch people under its control, the army, on regular basis, reportedly, committing atrocities on this community.
Region of natural resources:
As per reports, one-third natural gas for the entire Pakistan, comes from this very region. Oil reserves are also located in this region. Mining is going on here for extracting gold. The area also houses metals like copper. Precious Uranium is also found here.
The province from where the Pakistan is earning millions of dollars is also the most backward region in the country with government completely ignoring its development.
Pakistan shamelessly cries foul on the matter of Kashmir but when it comes to Balochistan, it says that it is its personal matter.
