Baloch militants on Tuesday launched an attack on a train in Pakistan's Balochistan province and took around 450 passengers as hostages. 


Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a Baloch militant group which claimed responsibility for the attack, opened fire on the Jaffar Express traveling from Quetta to Peshawar.


The armed men forced the train to stop in a tunnel between Pehro Kunri and Gadalar. Several passengers, including the train driver, is injured in the incident.


Railway officials have confirmed that the train’s driver sustained serious injuries, and an emergency relief train has been dispatched to assist.

"There are reports of intense firing at a Jaffar Express, which was heading from Quetta to Peshawar, between Pehro Kunri and Gadalar,” Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind was quoted as saying by Dawn.


The provincial government in Balochistan issued a statement saying an emergency was imposed at Sibi hospital and ambulances and security forces were on their way to the site.


Despite the hijack of around 450 passengers and an ongoing military operation against the Baloch militants, there was no response from the top Pakistani leadership. 


Indian Leaders Quick To Respond To Pakistan Train Hijack


Though there was no immediate response from Pakistani leaders, several Indian leaders, mostly from the ruling BJP, responded over the incident and prayed for the safety of the hijacked passengers.


BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Brij Lal said that he pray to God that all the 470 passengers get free and expressed his sympathies for their families. The MP, however, added that Pakistan is paying for its deeds and added that they had hijacked Indian plane and got terrorists released and even attacked the Indian Parliament.


"I pray to God that all the 470 passengers get free, they do not get hurt. We have our sympathies for their families. But Pakistan is paying for its deeds. They had hijacked our plane, took it to Kandhar, to get terrorists released, they attacked the Parliament, but 13 jawans had killed those terrorists. They used to conduct blasts In India, many incidents happened, but when the Modi government came, we are having zero-tolerance approach. Pakistan should learn that the approach of proxy war that they adopted is overpowering them," Brij Lal said.


BJP MP Gulam Ali Khatana questioned what Pakistan has done till today. He added that the country couldn't create infrastructure and always created problems for their country.


"What has Pakistan done till date? It gained independence along with India, but did not build infrastructure. They have always created problems. Sometimes in Punjab, sometimes in Kashmir, sometimes in Afghanistan. They did not pay attention to their people," Gulam Ali Khatana said.


Former DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vaid, said that Pakistan has lost control over Balochistan and added that around 6-7 districts in the province in control of terrorists.


"Pakistan's army and government have lost control over Balochistan. Maulana Fazlur Rehman had said in Pakistan's senate that 6-7 districts of Balochistan are completely under the control of terrorists, Pakistan government or Pakistan army have no control... In such a situation, it is not surprising that all this is happening... Pakistan is on the verge of breaking up," Vaid said.
