Istanbul: In a shocking turn of events that can have wide scale implications on geo-politics, Turkish army apparently is attempting a coup in Istanbul. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has said that a faction of military forces have attempted to dethrone the government.


International news channel Al Jazeera has reported that Istabul’s Ataturk international airport has been shut down.


According to the Al Jazeera report, PM Yildirim has said that the perpetrators would be contained.


“Istanbul's Bosphorus Bridge and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge have reportedly been shut down by the Turkish army,” reported the channel.


CNN Turk has reported that there were tanks seen on roads and jets flying low.
