New Delhi: Just a day after North Korea’s Kim Jong Un warned of considering a change of approach is US maintains pressure over it, Donald Trump tweeted that he looks forward to meeting with the North Korean leader.


Kim Jong Un in his New Year speech said that he wants good relations with the US but he might consider change in approach if Washington maintains its sanctions.

Reacting to Kim’s speech, Trump said in a tweet: “I also look forward to meeting with Chairman Kim who realizes so well that North Korea possesses great economic potential.”

"Kim Jong Un says North Korea will not make or test nuclear weapons, or give them to others - and he is ready to meet President Trump anytime." PBS News Hour," he wrote on Twitter.

After 12 months of diplomatic rapprochement, Kim said on Tuesday: “ If the US does not keep its promise made in front of the whole world... and insists on sanctions and pressures on our republic,  may be left with no choice but to consider a new way to safeguard our sovereignty and interests".

Kim was referring to his summit with US President Donald Trump in Singapore in June, when he said he had "fruitful talks" and "exchanged constructive ideas".

The meeting between Trump and Kim Jong was historic , as Trump is the first US President to have a summit meeting with a North Korean leader in more than five decades.

The two met in Singapore, during which they agreed towards a North Korean denuclearisation program.

In recent weeks, the two leaders have indicated that they plan to meet again. A date and venue of the second summit meeting between the two have not been decided yet.
