Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke to his US counterpart Antony Blinken over phone on Sunday amid worsening situation in Afghanistan and the expulsion of Afghan nationals and diplomats from the Us and NATO countries over a deadline of August 31. At the same time, Wang and Blinkon also discussed bilateral relations that were strained on many issues.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang said fundamental changes have taken place in Afghanistan and that it is necessary for all parties to contact the Taliban and guide it actively, Chinese government news agency Xinhua reported.

Wang said the United States in particular needs to work with the international community to provide economic, livelihood and humanitarian assistance urgently needed in Afghanistan. He said the new Afghan political structure should start working as soon as possible towards helping government institutions maintain normal operations, maintain social security and stability, curb currency depreciation, inflation and peaceful reconstruction.

China's Foreign Minister told Antony Blinken that facts have proved again that the Afghanistan war has not achieved the goal of eliminating terrorist forces in Afghanistan. At the same time, the hasty withdrawal of U.S. and NATO troops is likely to give various terrorist groups in Afghanistan an opportunity to regroup and come together.
