New Delhi: Former Member of National Assembly (MNA) of Pakistan and popular television host, Amir Liaquat Husain passed away at the age of 49 in Pakistan’s commercial capital, Karachi, reported news agency ANI via Pakistani local media. 


The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader was found unconscious at his residence in Khudadad colony after which he was shifted to a private hospital in a critical condition. Liaquat felt some discomfort last night but refused to go to a hospital, reported Geo News. 


A scream was heard from Liaquat’s room on Thursday morning, said his employee Javed, adding that the room was locked from inside. When no response came back from inside the room, his domestic staff broke down the room’s door, as per the report. 


Afterwards, Liaqaut was pronounced dead when brought to the hospital, the report stated further.  


The police have initiated investigation into the matter and conducted a search at his residence in Karachi’s Khudadad colony.  SSP East said the police will also obtain CCTV footage to ascertain the facts leading to his death, quoted by Geo News.


The authorities have decided to conduct a post-mortem as he died under mysterious circumstances, while Karachi DIG Muquddas Haider said that preliminary investigation has ruled out any foul play, Dawn reported. The post-mortem examination will be conducted at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.


As per the SSP everything was in place at Liaquat’s house when the police went for an examination of the house. 


The proceedings of the National Assembly which was underway at the time of Liaquat’s demise were immediately stopped and adjourned till 5pm on Friday.
