New Delhi: Minutes into the anniversary of the Al-Qaeda-led 9/11 terror attack in the United States, a rocket exploded at the US embassy compound in Afghan capital Kabul. The attack is the first major one to come after US cancelled peace talks with the outfit.

As per officials, the compound was declared all clear about an hour later and no injuries were reported, the Associated Press reported.

The first major attack if the Kabul, since US President Donald Trump abruptly ended the US-Taliban talks.

Two Taliban car bombs shook Kabul last week, killing several civilians and two members of the NATO mission. Trump has cited the death of a U.S. service member in one of those blasts as the reason why he now calls the U.S.-Taliban talks “dead.”

Shortly, after the attack at the embassy, a plume of smoke could be seen rising up from its compound minutes after the midnight

About 14,000 US troops remain in Afghanistan.
