2 Injured After Ukrainian Drone Attack In Moscow, Nearly 50 Flights Impacted

At least two persons were injured while nearly 50 flights were disrupted due to a Ukrainian drone attack in the Russian capital Moscow.

A Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow has been reported to have injured two people and disrupted around 50 flights in the Russian capital. The incident happened after parts of the drone destroyed by Russian air defences fell on a house in the Moscow region, reported Reuters citing the regional governor. The development impacted in and out movement of nearly 50 flights. Russia jammed a drone in the Ruzsky district west of the capital and destroyed another one in the Istrinsky district nearby, the report added.

Russian aviation authority Rosaviatsia said that arrivals and departures from Moscow's four main airports - Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo and Zhukovsky - were restricted, disrupting 45 passenger planes and two cargo planes, as per Reuters.

It is important to note that time and again, Russian officials have warned of severe consequences of military drones flying over Moscow - which along with its surrounding region has a population of nearly 22 million people - could cause a major disaster.

Several incidents of drone strikes inside Russia have come forth recently after two drones were destroyed over the Kremlin in early May. Drone strikes have intensified in the Russian capital in recent months. Meanwhile, there has been no response from Ukraine over the alleged attack, continuing the trend of not speaking on similar drone attacks.

While there is no clarity as to what impact the drone attacks will have on perceptions of the war among the Russian population, according to Reuters, polling indicates that support for the Russian military operation in Ukraine remains high. 

Last week, a drone attack in the Russian capital town of Moscow hit a building, reported Reuters. Russian officials said it was a Ukrainian drone and Russian air defences shot it down, disrupting air traffic at all the civilian airports of Moscow, the report further said. The drone fell on a non-residential building of Moscow's Expo Center complex in the early hours after it was neutralised by the Russian air defence system.

Russian defence ministry and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said there were no casualties in the incident, Reuters added.
