A probe has been ordered by the government to look into the incident, said Urban development minister Suresh Bhardwaj. Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority Director Sudesh Kumar Mokhta revealed that the eight-storey building at Ghoda Chowki near Hali Palace in Shimla collapsed in the afternoon due to a landslide triggered by recent rains.

In fact, parts of the eight-storey structure also impacted two two-storey buildings leaving them damaged. He added two adjoining buildings, including a hotel, were also at risk. Mokhta said the district administration has provided Rs 10,000 as immediate financial aid to each of the occupants of the buildings.

Such incidents are common in the state during the monsoon season. In July, a terrifying video emerged on social media due to a massive landslide in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh showing an entire stretch of the road collapsing into the valley below.

The terrifying video showed a large part of a hilltop collapsing as boulders and rocks roll downhill hitting the stretch of road and uprooting trees. As a result of landslides and flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh in July, almost nine people were killed and several others were reportedly missing.
