The entry-level Volkswagen lineup in India – the Polo, GT, Ameo and the Vento – is likely to be befitted from the recently introduced 6.5-inch ‘Drive’ infotainment system in the Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo

The Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo, which comes with sporty styling inside and outside along with additional features, was launched recently. The highlight on the inside is its new 6.5-inch infotainment system, called ‘Drive’. We believe that Volkswagen might also add this new unit in its entry-level line-up – the Polo range, Ameo and the Vento – soon.

Volkswagen currently offers a relatively small 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system in its Polo clan. This is smaller than the units offered by the competitors – Maruti and Hyundai offer a 7-inch unit, while Honda offers 6.2- and 7-inch ones. Further, the 5-inch unit doesn’t have support for Google Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, which even a Hyundai Grand i10 boast of nowadays.

The recently launched Hyundai Verna, which is one of the arch rivals of the Vento, offers the most advanced touchscreen unit in the segment. You get a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with Android-based smartphone remote and an IPS wide-angle display.

The Hyundai Xcent, which is a rival to the VW Ameo, also has a 7-inch unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Maruti’s 7-inch system, equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, is offered in the Baleno (Polo rival), Dzire (Ameo rival) and the Ciaz (Vento rival).

The new 6.5-inch Drive unit packs support for both Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with MirrorLink (also available with the 5-inch unit). Volkswagen might add Highline Plus variants of the Polo and the Ameo featuring this system, while offering it in the existing Vento Highline Plus. The upcoming festive season seems to be an appropriate time to offer these updates!
