New Delhi: Volkswagen indicates that the Volkswagen Polo GTI models have started their journey towards India from their manufacturing facility in Spain. This means that the Polo GTI models will likely be launched soon in India.
Expected to launch around the festive season, the deliveries are likely to commence beginning from December 2016. However, Volkswagen will launch the GTI models in a sort of limited edition for the Indian market and only a few limited numbers will sell in India.
The model was first seen in the 2016 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. Spy shots, while the model had been tested, were also seen quite a few times. The difference between the Auto Expo showcased model and the spied models were the changes in the number of doors.
Volkswagen showcased a 3-door model at the 2016 Auto Expo, while the versions seen testing later on were 5-door versions. Given the Indian market’s proclivity for such comforts as a 5-door, only the 5-door versions are expected to be launched in India.
However, the launch of a 3-door version is also possible, if Volkswagen wants to be seen as unique in an effort to stand out from the regular models, including its own standard Polo models. Still, 5-doors will make a lot of practical sense in a country like India.
The Volkswagen Polo GTI draws power from a 1.8-litre TSI petrol mill, which makes 189 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. It goes from 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG transmission as options. Expect the Polo GTI to price around the Rs. 25 lakh mark.
