New Delhi: German automaker Volkswagen has commenced deliveries of its first ‘Made in India’ car, the Ameo, informed a press release on Monday. The first sub-4 metre sedan from the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer is based on the same platform as the Polo hatchback and has entered the Indian automobile landscape amid stiff competition from the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Figo Aspire in the segment.



On the occasion, director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, Michael Mayer highlighted the positive response that the Ameo has received in the country ever since its debut before the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo in February this year.

“We are very happy to bring this Made in India and Made for India sedan to our customers now, as we initiate the deliveries. For the Ameo customers, we have also introduced special care packages to ensure a positive ownership experience along with the best of technology, safety and various first in class features at an attractive price,” he added with the ambition of carrying forward this momentum into the festive season.



Having branded the car as an India-specific product, Volkswagen has paid special attention to features and safety. As a result, the Ameo boasts of several first-in-class features like cruise control, rain sensing wipers, anti-pinch power windows – front and rear, front centre arm rest and static cornering light.

Other features on the car include cooled glovebox, climatronic air conditioning with dust and pollen filter, rear view camera and parking sensors, electrical adjustable and foldable outside rear view mirrors, and touchscreen in-car entertainment system with Mirror Link and iPod connectivity. In terms of safety, all variants of the Ameo come equipped with dual front airbags and ABS as standard.

Priced at Rs 5.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Ameo is now available across all Volkswagen showrooms. Customers can also book the Ameo through the mobile application available on the Google PlayStore, concluded the release.
