New Delhi: The city that gave India seven of its Prime Ministers, Allahabad, is gearing up for epic electoral battle to capture power in Uttar Pradesh. Though, the elections are next year, the poll decibel is rising here. The city was once Congress fiefdom then went to the BJP and now is Samajwadi Party stronghold.

Allahabad is Uttar Pradesh’s most populous city. It is a centre for art, culture and politics.

The main problems in the city are that industries in Naini and Phoolpur are getting closed one by one. Unemployment and rising pollution has diminished the luster of the city.

Allahabad is the city with maximum assembly seats. 8 out of 12 MLAs are from Samajwadi Party. 3 MLAs are from BSP, whereas 1 is from Congress. In 2012, BJP had lost all the seats.

However, in Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won both the seats from the city. Party has launched its campaign in Uttar Pradesh with full force.
