Jacob Blake Shooting: The ‘Black Lives Matter’ protest has once again picked up pace after a man Jacob Blake was shot in the back by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday and is left paralyzed and battling for life as per his family and lawyers. Soon after the incident went viral, violent protests broke out in the lakefront town for a third night which forced Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers to declare a state of emergency. The governor also mentioned the deployment of additional National Guard troops to restore order in the town even as the mother and Jacob Blake Jr urged public to ensure calm. The video of the incident has brought back the horrific memories of George Floyd’s death, the black man who died after he was meted out inhuman treatment by white cops.

The Black man shot in the back by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was left paralyzed and “fighting for his life,” his family and lawyers said on Tuesday. As per the Reuters report, the lawyers said bullets have impacted Blake’s vertebrae, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and most likely permanently. He also suffered gunshot wounds to his stomach and gastrointestinal tract, requiring surgeons to remove most of his colon and small intestine, and sustained damage to his kidney, liver and one of his arms.

Who is Jacob Blake?

Jacob Blake is a 29-year-old man and a father of six, was unarmed when he was shot at by firing multiple rounds on Sunday at the hands of white police officers in Kenosha, Wisconsin, as per the news agency Reuters.

At that time three of his young sons were inside the automobile, aged 3, 5 and 8, and happened to witness their father being gunned down as per the civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who represents the Blake family.

Even though the reason for the shooting of Blake is not yet known.

Jacob Blake is a security guard who had broken up an argument before being shot by the police, according to ABC News. Blake spent most of his life in Evanston where he grew up and later moved to Kenosha from for a fresh start. Ironically, he became the centre of a national debate over mishandling by police and racial controversy.

He studied in Evanston Township High School where he enjoyed football and basketball and was interested in music and architecture. He decided to shit to the new location because "it was a safer location" and he "could work and try to save and build a better life."

Blake still maintained the connection with his former home in Evanston, a suburb of Chicago 65 miles south of Kenosha where his extended family members live.

What’s his family background?

Blake's uncle depicted him as a family man who volunteered at a local recycling project which he had founded in Chicago. The organization recycles tin to make money for local veterans.

In 2015, Blake has supported his uncle for an outreach program supporting Black men in Chicago after a string of killings as per Chicago Tribune.

As per the report, his grandfather, Jacob Blake Sr., also remained deeply involved in fighting for the cause of fair housing. His grandfather was a lead pastor at Evanston's Ebenezer AME Church during the 1960s and 70s.
