Here is a list of major changes in prepaid tariff plans by operators to be noted.
Reliance Jio
Jio Cricket plans
For Reliance Jio subscribers, two new plans are available under its ‘Cricket Dhana Dhan Jio Dhana Dhan’ offer. Under the plan, you can avail free yearly subscription to Disney+ Hotstar VIP. The new plans are priced at Rs 499 and Rs 777 offering customers free access to Disney+ Hotstar VIP, calling benefits, data benefits and free SMSes
Under the Rs 499 Cricket plan, Jio is offering subscribers 1.5GB of daily high-speed data for 56 days. It’s important to note that the plan does not offer any calling or SMS benefits. The Rs 777 plan offers its customers 1.5GB of daily high-speed data with 5GB additional data, unlimited Jio to Jio calls, 3,000 FUP minutes and 100 complimentary SMSes per day. The plan comes with a validity of 84 days.
Airtel Prepaid Tariff Plans (Rs 129 and Rs 199 prepaid tariff)
Airtel remains the second-largest telecom operator has launched the Rs 129 and Rs 199 prepaid tariff plans in May for select circles.
What’s new?
It has now expanded the availability of these plans to pan-India which means the plan can be subscribed by people in any circle. Under the Rs 129 plan, you will get 1GB of high speed data, unlimited calls and 300 SMSes while the Rs 199 plan offers you 1GB of daily high speed data, unlimited calls and 100 daily complimentary SMSes.
Both the plans have a validity of 24 days and include free access to Airtel Xstream, Wynk Music and Hello Tunes.
Addition of Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscription
Now, those who are subscribed to Rs 448, Rs 499, Rs 599 and Rs 2,698 plans will get the one year Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscription benefit which was previously available under Rs 401 plan. This benefit has been offered because of the upcoming IPL 2020 tournament, which will be livestreamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
Fresh Rs 401 plan
If you are subscribed to the Rs 401 plan and availing 3GB of data for 28 days along with a complimentary subscription to Disney+ Hotstar VIP, then you will now get 30GB of data for the same duration. The Rs 401 Airtel prepaid recharge plan was introduced amid the Covid-19 lockdown since people were indoors and hooked to streaming apps.
Vodafone-Idea
In case of Vodafone Idea, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a show cause notice asking why it should not ban the company’s RedX premium tariff plan. The company has time till August 31 to respond against its allegations of making false claims about offering faster data speeds. In case the company fails to do then it will have to discontinue the RedX plan. The RedX plan offered preferential benefits, including superior data speeds, preferential customer service, subscription of Netflix and Amazon Prime, access to airport lounges and exclusive deals on handsets, hotel bookings etc.
Vodafone-Idea has also rolled out a new prepaid plan worth Rs 819 which would provide 2GB of data everyday for a period of 84 days. The plan which has been launched in July includes unlimited calling and 100 SMS/day as is the case with most prepaid plans being offered by the telecos.
However, it's important to note that as per the listing on the Vodafone India site, the Rs. 819 prepaid recharge plan is available only in the Delhi circle and is limited to only Vodafone customers.
