Four people who were complainant in a cheating case on Thursday tried to commit suicide by drinking phenyl at Gujarat High Court in Ahmedabad. As per the police, the aggrieved complainants were apparently upset over the court entertaining pre-arrest bail applications of the accused forcing them to take the extreme step in the courtroom of Justice Nirzar Desai. They were rushed to a hospital and the condition of all the four were stable, said an official as per a PTI report.

Shailesh Panchal (52), his wife Jayshriben (50), Hardik Patel (24) and Manoj Vaishnav (41) tried to kill themselves by consuming phenyl, which is harmful for human body, in the court of Justice Nirzar Desai when the hearing was going on, said inspector Jignesh Agravat of Sola police station, as per the report.

The complainants were aggrieved as the court entertained anticipatory bail pleas of the general manager of Colour Mercantile Co-operative Bank and two others against whom they had filed complaints for allegedly syphoning off loan amounts, he said.

The accused persons were earlier granted interim protection from arrest by the court.

As the incident caused commision in the courtroom, Justice Nirzar Desai left the court and the police personnel on duty took Panchal and others to a nearby government hospital, inspector Agravat said.

Panchal, his wife and the other two had lodged complaints against loan consultant Chintan Shah, general manager Kinnarbhai and manager Atul Shah for forgery, cheating and criminal breach of trust at Anandnagar police station in Ahmedabad.

The four had approached the bank for loans which were duly sanctioned, but the accused allegedly syphoned off the amounts by forging documents, as per the complaint.
