New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to West Bengal, met BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and had dinner with him at his residence on Friday. The visit was supposed to be a courtesy call since the Union Minister's son, Jay Shah, is the former cricketer's colleague as Honorary Secretary in the Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI. A group had accumulated on the narrow street outside to see Amit Shah, who sat in the front seat and welcomed individuals with a namaste signal, as reported by NDTV.

Ganguly, 49, told correspondents nothing political ought to be added something extra to the meeting. He said he knows Amit Shah for more than 10 years and has met a few times as well.

"He (Amit Shah) will come in the evening. He has accepted my invite. We have a lot to talk about. I have known him since 2008. When I used to play, we met but not so much as I used to be on tour," Mr Ganguly told reporters earlier today. "I work with his son. It is an old association," he added.

On what is on the menu, Ganguly grinned and answered, "...Will go home and see. He is a vegetarian."

Before going to Sourav Ganguly's residence, Amit Shah attended the 'Mukti-matrika' (Freedom as Mother) cultural programme that was organised by the Ministry of Culture at Kolkata's Victoria Memorial Hall. The programme also featured a dance by Sourav Ganguly's wife, Dona Ganguly and her troupe, Diksha Manjari.
