New Delhi: Two farmers from Punjab died in a road accident in Hisar district of Haryana on Saturday while returning back from Tikri protest site on the border of Delhi. As reported by PTI, the two farmers died after the tractor trailer these farmers were travelling was hit by a truck.
The accident left one farmer seriously injured at Dhandoor village in Hisar, the Police said. Hisar Police Inspector Kaptan said that five farmers were on the tractor trailer when the accident took place. “Two farmers were killed while another one was seriously injured when the tractor-trailer they were riding was hit from behind by a truck,” the police inspector said.
One of the two farmers died immediately at the accident spot while the other one succumbed to his injuries during the treatment at a hospital. The farmers who lost their lives were 40 and 34-years-old and belonged to Punjab’s Muktsar district.
The farmers were returning after the year-long protest against the three farm laws had come to an end as the Centre had repealed the three contentious farm laws.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM),an umbrella outfit of 40 farm unions, announced that the farmers would head back to their homes on December 11 from the protest sites on Delhi’s borders.
Farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh were protesting against the three farm laws from November 26 last year to repeal three farm laws that the Union government had passed last year.
The farmers began to return back to their homes in large convoys after the announcement made by SKM.
