You're going to travel somewhere by train but suddenly for some reason, you have to change your plan. In such a situation, you have to cancel the train ticket. But if you cancel your ticket, you will lose a hefty amount from the total money you have paid for buying the tickets. - Let's tell you the amount that is deducted when you cancel your tickets.
E-tickets can be canceled on the IRCTC's website until the train chart is ready. If the passenger wants to cancel his e-ticket, he can do so until the chart for the train is ready. The chart for the train starting by 12 noon is usually prepared the previous night.
- Charge to cancel e-ticket before preparing train chart
- If the confirmed ticket is cancelled 48 hours before the departure time of the train, the flat cancellation charge is ₹ 240 for AC First Class/Executive Class and RS.200 for AC 2 Tier/First Class. Cancellation charges are Rs. 180 for AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/AC 3 Economy, Rs. 120 for Sleeper Class, and RS, 80 for Second Class.
- If a confirmed ticket is cancelled 12 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train, the cancellation charge will be 25% of the minimum flat rate fare. There will be a deduction of up to 50% of the fare if the cancellation is done less than 12 hours and up to four hours before the scheduled departure of the train until the preparation of the chart. Indian Railways Reservation Chart is prepared from the Source station or from the previous station.

E-tickets cannot be canceled after the reservation chart is ready. Passengers use online TDR filing for such cases and track refund status through the tracking service provided by IRCTC. - TDR can be filed as per railway rules.
- In case the ticket is not cancelled or if the TDR is not filed online prior to four hours of the scheduled departure, no refund will be issued on tickets with confirmed reservations.
- RAC e-tickets will not get refunds if tickets are not cancelled up to thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train or TDR is not filed online.
- Cancellation charge on tatkal tickets booked as e-tickets
There is no refund on cancellation of confirmed tatkal tickets. Tatkal tickets with waiting lists are charged on cancellation. Tatkal e-tickets are allowed to be partially canceled.
- Charge for cancellation of ticket in case of cancellation of train
If the train is canceled due to floods, accidents, etc. a full refund is issued on the cancellation of tickets within three days of the scheduled departure of the train.
