Ever since Toyota and Maruti Suzuki signed a deal to share models for the Indian four-wheeler market, both companies have released a list of cars that will be cross-badged and sold in the country. After launching the Glanza based on the Baleno earlier this year, Toyota is now gearing up to introduce a rebadged MPV from Maruti Suzuki soon. However, Toyota is yet to reveal whether it will be based on the Ertiga or the recently launched XL6. Our bet is that it will be based on the latter as it is a more premium alternative to the Ertiga.

Currently, Toyota has just one MPV in its portfolio, the Innova Crysta, which is priced from 14.93 lakh to Rs 22.43 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The XL6, which is a six-seater MPV, will allow Toyota to compete in a lower segment as the Maruti offering is priced from Rs 9.8 lakh to Rs 11.46 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Expect the Toyota-badged XL6 to get minor cosmetic changes but carry the same set of features as the Nexa offering. The XL6 is based on the top-spec Zand Z+ variants of the Ertiga and is only available with a petrol engine. The Toyota-badged MPV is likely to be launched by end-2019 or early-2020. We believe Toyota could price its version of the MPV in the same range as the XL6. Here’s a quick look at the XL6’s price chart:
