Toyota Kirloskar Motors sales jumps 29% YoY in June 2016
New Delhi: Toyota Kirloskar Motors witnessed a 29% growth in sales YoY in June 2016. Last year’s sales for the corresponding period were 10,464 units in India. Sales for June 2016 were 13,502 units. Models that added to the sales boost were the newly launched Toyota Innova Crysta and the Toyota Camry.
Toyota Camry topped the charts with 30% growth over June 2015 with 90% of the customers preferring the Toyota Camry Hybrid. Meanwhile, the Toyota Etios sold 4% more this year, against the same period last year. Despite the increase in sales in the domestic market, exports took a sharp decline YoY with a 29.47% slump. Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold only 1,352 units abroad in June 2016 against the 1,917 units sold last year in the same month.
Talking about the rise in sales, N Raja, Director and Senior Vice President (Sales and Marketing), said: “We launched the Innova Crysta last month and have received an overwhelming response from our customers. We would like to thank our customer for their trust in Toyota.”
He added, “The Innova Crysta has a waiting period of 2 to 3 months and we would request our customers to be patient with us so that we can bring the best products to them.”
Also talking about the ban on diesel engines over 2.0-liter capacity, he said, “We respect the honorable court’s judgment regarding cleaning the bad air quality around us. We would fully support the authorities for creating a better environment for our future generations.”
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has been apparently expecting the debate on the use of diesel and diesel engines, set to happen at the Supreme Court on July 11, to turn favorable. The Japanese Corporation’s Indian subsidiary’s joint venture Toyota Industries Engine India Private Limited also invested in a diesel engine manufacturing plant at Bengaluru, just recently, on June 23.
So, expecting a positive turn out from the upcoming Supreme Court debate, Mr. N Raja added, “We are confident that honorable court will consider our submissions during the next hearing in July and hope the matter is suitably resolved at the earliest.”
