In pursuance of its safety mission of ‘Safest Car with Safest Driver’, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has opened its first Toyota Driving School in the National Capital Region. Located in Faridabad, it is Toyota's sixth driving school in the country and is managed by one of the Toyota’s dealerships, Thirty Six Toyota. The other five driving schools are located in Kochi, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata. TKM plans to open 50 driving schools across the country by 2020.
To make sure that every student turns out to be a responsible and safe driver the Toyota Driving Schools has a comprehensive driver training program with high quality, practical and futuristic training models. To make the training experience as realistic as possible Toyota has incorporated features like IP, steering, and seats of an actual Etios car and calls it the “Etios Experience”.
The curriculum consists of following topics.
1) Traffic management, rules and discipline
2) Safe and right driving concepts
3) Manners and responsibilities of a driver
4) Simulation of driving on real vehicles before getting onto the road
5) All aspects of practical driving on road
6) Driving on various road and climate conditions
7) Know your car – Basic maintenance and repairs
8) Emergency handling
9) Systematic evaluation and feedback
The driving school has the first car simulator in India with full high-definition computer graphics in an immersive curved projection environment. Moreover, it is also the first simulator in India with complete car cabin along with actual car gear. Students can practice all car controls like steering, accelerator, brake and gear shifts on the simulator. Also, different road and weather conditions like fog, dim light, uphill and downhill terrain can be created in the simulator. For the convenience of students, the simulator also offers extensive local language support. The driving schools have a standard learning package for beginners; however, students can also design a curriculum of their choice.
TKM has been actively involved in road safety initiatives since 2005 through various campaigns across the country. Toyota has educated more than 6,80,000 school children on road safety and has also been conducting driver training programs and health check-up camps for airport taxi drivers in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi International Airport. Toyota is also focusing on making its cars safer as the Etios was the first car in its segment to have driver and passenger airbags as standard.
