New Delhi: At least three people were killed by an Arab attacker in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba on Tuesday and the attacker was shot dead, police said as quoted by news agency Reuters.

"It appeared to be a single terrorist who went on a stabbing spree," police spokesman Eli Levy said on Channel 13 TV. "A civilian took the initiative and shot and killed him."

The Magen David Adom ambulance service said three individuals - a man and two ladies - were killed by the attacker and that at least three others were injured, one fundamentally.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Israeli media reports said the attacker was an Arab resident of Israel, however, police didn't immediately publicly identify him.

Meanwhile, a military correspondent for the Times of Israel, Emanuel Fabian, tweeted that one of the victims was "rammed by the assailant, and the others were stabbed."

On Saturday, a similar incident took place in West Jerusalem where a Palestinian man has been shot by Israeli forces following an alleged stabbing attack, as reported by the police earlier.

Israeli forces started shooting at the attacker and killed him, the assertion said, without indicating what his condition was.

The Magen David Adom emergency services said the Israeli, in his mid-30s, was delicately harmed.
