Tata Motors has updated the Tiago hatchback to get more safety equipment as standard to meet the new norms that will be in effect from July 2019. The entry-level hatchback now gets dual-front airbags, rear parking sensors, cornering stability control and ABS with EBD as standard across all variants.

The Tiago also gets front seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters, front passenger seatbelt reminder and the speed alert system as well in this update. As a result of these features being offered as standard, the Tiago’s entry price has gone up from Rs 4.27 lakh to Rs 4.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base-spec XE petrol variant. Tata has reportedly begun dispatching these updated Tiagos to its dealerships too.

Its segment rivals, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR and Hyundai Santro, do not offer all of the above mentioned safety features as standard yet, but they will make their updates soon. As of now, the standard safety-spec for the entry-level WagonR is better than the entry-level Santro. At the same time, the WagonR’s entry-spec Optional variant matches the updated Tiago’s standard safety features at a lower price of Rs 4.26 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
