New Delhi: According to a study conducted on the impact of COVID-19, two out of three Indians, that is 66% of Indians, have become addicted to being online. On average, Indian adults are spending 4.4 hours a day in front of the screen according to the latest annual report by Norton Cyber Safety Insights.
The report is based on a survey conducted on over 1,000 adult Indians which found 82% of people are spending time in front of mobile screens while working from home or attending online classes. This increase was noticed since the Covid-19 Lockdown began in 2020.

COVID-19 lockdown has made people addicted to their screens
Smartphones have become the most common avenue for 84% of Indian adults to spend most of their day online. 74% of Indian adults agree that the amount of time spent in front of a screen negatively affects their physical health, while more than half, almost 55% said it also negatively affects their mental health.
The survey also revealed signs of lack of trust in smart home devices among Indian adults, 40% of people admitted that they were not fully aware of smart home systems. On the other hand, 35% of adults said that they don't consider buying smart home systems as they believe that companies manufacturing smart home devices use customer data without their consent.
20-20-20 for a healthy relationship with your screens
Excessive use of gadgets could cause a number of health issues, including depression, obesity, and insomnia. So after looking at a screen for 20 minutes, it is recommended to look at a window, tree, or anything which is 20 feet or futher for 20 seconds, before you start looking at the screen again as you resume work.
This simple exercise would be beneficial to keep your eyes and eyesight healthy.
You should also keep these things in mind while using gadgets:
- There should be a 26-inch distance between your eyes and the screen of your laptop.
- There should be a 14-inch distance between your eyes and the screen of your mobile phone.
- You should avoid unnecessary use of gadgets.
- You should include more healthy foods like green vegetables, nuts, and seeds in your diet.
