In a shocking turn of events, SL Dharmegowda, deputy speaker of Karnataka Legislative Council and JDS leader died by suicide on Tuesday morning. Though the exact reason for death remains uncertain, the local police have recovered a suicide note from the site.

Janata Dal (Secular) member Dharmegowda was recently in the headlines when he was manhandled during chaos in the council.

In his suicide note, he mentioned of the incident of December 15 when some Congress members allegedly dragged him from the seat of the Chairman accusing him of joining hands with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party to unconstitutionally unseat the Upper House Chairman Pratap Chandra Shetty, who is from the Congress.

Meanwhile, reacting to the unfortunate development, former PM and JDS leader HD Deve Gowda as quoted by news agency ANI said, " It is shocking to learn the news of Deputy Speaker of State Legislative Council and JDS leader SL Dharmegowda's suicide. He was a calm and decent man. This is a loss of the state."
