Sikkim Police Personnel Shoots Dead 3 Colleagues In Delhi Over Remarks Against Wife

The Sikkim police personnel were posted at a water plant in Delhi's Haiderpur area where the incident took place.

New Delhi: Three Sikkim police personnel were shot dead after one of their colleagues at the Haiderpur water treatment plant opened fire, Delhi Police said. Accused Prabin Rai (32) surrendered at the Samaypur Badli police station after the incident, PTI reported.

Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Dependra Pathak Rai said, during initial investigation, it was found that Rai's three colleagues caused him mental harassment by saying "untoward things" about his wife, PTI reported. The three deceased were Sikkim Police personnel deployed at the plant for its security as part of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn).

A senior official said they received a PCR call at the KNK Marg Police Station at around 3 pm about the incident.

"Upon reaching the spot, it was found that three persons belonging to Sikkim Police had been shot, of which two had died on the spot and one was critically wounded and transferred to BSA hospital where he was declared brought dead," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Pranav Tayal said.

Police said the three deceased personnel were: Commander Pinto Namgyal Bhutia (batch 2012, same as the accused), constables Indra Lal Chhetri and Dhanhang Subba (both of 2013 batch).

A similar incident of fratricide was reported last week when two soldiers were killed while one was injured in an alleged gunfight in Jammu and Kasmhir's Surankote area of Poonch district, official sources said. As per the sources quoted by local news agency, the firing took place when Imran Ahmed, a resident of Kalakote and Imtiyaz Ahmed of Mendhar opened fire on each other over some personal matter after a heated argument.

Other soldiers, identified as Makhan Singh and Khlalil Ahmed were caught in the crossfire and were critically injured. Both the injured personnel were taken to hospital where one of them had reportedly succumbed to his injuries. 

In November last year, as many as four soldiers of the CRPF were killled and three left injured after a jawan had opened fire at his colleagues in Chattisgarh's Sukma district.

According to a PTI report, the jawan shot them at a camp of the paramilitary force in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district.

The incident occurred at around 3.45 am in the camp of CRPF's 50th battalion in Lingampalli village of the district, around 400 km from the state capital Raipur, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.
