New Delhi: Six police officials have been suspended over laxity on the issue of politician Shrikant Tyagi, an accused of assaulting and abusing a woman inside a housing society in Uttar Pradesh's Noida, said UP ADG (law and order) Prashant Kumar as reported by news agency PTI. Meanwhile, two personal security officers have also been provided to the woman complainant in the case, said UP ADG.









"The in-charge of the local police station has been suspended. Besides him, a sub-inspector and four constables have also been suspended for laxity in work," the ADG said.


"Two personal security officers (PSOs) have also been provided to the woman complainant in the case," Kumar said.


"Efforts are on nab the accused. The UP government and the Director General of Police have made it clear that such incidents won't be tolerated," he said, adding that human intelligence and technical surveillance are being used to trace Tyagi.


"Modi-Yogi govt has a zero-tolerance policy for assault against women... after taking action under Gangster Act, a cash price of Rs 25,000 was announced to those who help with his arrest, 6 police officials suspended," said Mahesh Sharma, BJP MP from Gautambuddh Nagar.


The woman of the society had objected to the planting of some trees by Shrikant Tyagi citing a violation of rules in the residential society in Sector-93B, after which Tyagi allegedly abused the woman and pushed her. A video of the incident had gone viral on social media. 


Later, charges under IPC sections 447 (criminal trespass), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) were added against him, according to officials.  "A reward of Rs 25000 has been announced by the Commissionerate Gautam Budh Nagar Police on the arrest of accused Shrikant Tyagi, named in an FIR lodged at police station Phase-2 of Commissionerate Gautam Budh Nagar," the police said in a statement.

"We are coordinating with the UP police and if needed, Uttarakhand govt will take stringent action," said Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami on Shrikant Tyagi being found in Rishikesh after escaping from Noida.






A large number of policemen have been deployed in the society since last evening. The local people have demanded that Tyagi be arrested soon. More than 1,000 families live in this society.
