Lucknow: Former MP and senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Bhagwati Singh breathed his last aged 88 in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow on Sunday.


The body of Bhagwati Singh, who was one of the founder members of the Samajwadi Party, will be donated to the King George’s Medical University (KGMU).


Family sources have said that his body will be kept at his River bank Colony residence till afternoon to enable people to pay their respects after which it will be handed over to the KGMU, IANS reports.

Bhagwati Singh, who was a close associate of party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, held several ministerial positions in Samajwadi Party Governments in Uttar Pradesh.


Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav expressed grief over Singh’s demise and said his contribution will continue to inspire the Samajwadi Party. “May God give peace to the soul and strength to the family to bear the loss,” he tweeted.
