New Delhi: A 55-year-old scientist working with Information & Technology Ministry allegedly ended his life by jumping from the 7th floor of Shastri Bhawan's building in Delhi, police said on Monday. Rajesh Mallik, the deceased, was a resident of Peeragarhi in west Delhi, they said, adding that the body was found in front of gate number two of Shastri Bhawan which houses several Union government ministries.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Amrutha Guguloth said, "Information was received regarding a person who had jumped from the Shastri Bhawan. When the local police reached at the spot, the man was identified as Rajesh Mallik."
"A team of officers from the Parliament street police station and a crime team with ambulance reached the spot. Further enquiry is underway and legal action is being taken," the DCP added.
In Delhi-NCR, cases of suicide by jumping from the roof have increased these days. Recently, an engineer and his friend, living on 14th Avenue of Gaur City Society of Police Station Bisrakh area of Gautam Budh Nagar, had allegedly jumped from the 21st floor, due to which both died. This incident of alleged suicide took place at 4 pm. After getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot and took the bodies of both of them and sent them for post-mortem. During the investigation, the police had come to know that both were living together. The police have informed the families of both of them about the incident.
