New Delhi: Amid ongoing intra-party deliberations to evolve a long-term strategy, former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot met Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Thursday.

The talks between the two leaders lasted for about an hour. The meeting took place at 10 Janpath, the residence of Sonia Gandhi.

"Congress President is very keen that we all work unitedly to form a govt in Rajasthan again. I've been giving her my feedback regularly. Today we also spoke about organisational elections, how to strengthen the party," said Pilot as reported by news agency ANI.

Sources said that his role and responsibilities will be decided by the Congress President.

When it comes to the closest aides of Rahul Gandhi, now only Sachin Pilot is left as leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasad and RPN Singh already joined the BJP.

"Rajasthan is a state where every 5 yrs there's a govt change & I think if we do the right things like we've started to do,we need to move forward in that direction so that Congress wins next Rajasthan polls. It's important as soon after there'll be general elections," he told reporters.

When asked if he would accept a national role instead of the top post in Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot said: "I have always made it clear to play my part in any role given but I would definitely like to focus on my state Rajasthan."

Sachin Pilot has made it clear to the Gandhi family that he wants to become the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. When Congress won the 2018 Rajasthan elections, he was not the chief ministerial candidate. In his place, veteran Ashok Gehlot was declared the Chief Minister.

Pilot also had a meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra a few days back.
