Could this be the Classic 650 or a 650cc bobber?

Royal Enfield created quite a splash at last year’s EICMA motorcycle show when they unveiled the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. This year, it seems like they will be coming out with a new motorcycle based on the 650cc platform. The Indian bikemaker teased the new model on Instagram stating that it will be unveiled at EICMA. While we would like to see a Classic 650 in the works, a closer look at the veiled motorcycle hints at a possible Bobber 650.

While a Classic 650 would work well in India, Royal Enfield’s 650cc platform was directed towards a global market. Now that RE has a classic bike and a cafe racer on the 650cc platform, the next logical step would be to introduce a 650cc bobber or scrambler. And that silhouette does not look like a scrambler.

The silhouette teases a single seat, flat bars and what appears to be a larger front wheel with chopped front fenders. It seems like RE might use a 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel. Interestingly, the Classic 500 uses the same wheel configuration. The headlamp gets an LED treatment, and reminds us of the Indian Scout Bobber’s headlamp shroud.

The oil cooler too is visible under the cover. We expect the bike to carry the same engine, frame and suspension components as the 650cc twins. The 648cc parallel twin air- and oil-cooled engine is a relaxed unit making 47.6PS and 52Nm, and is mated to a 6-speed transmission.

While the bike will be unveiled at EICMA on November 6th, we can expect it to come to India sometime next year. Expect pricing to be slightly premium to the Continental GT 650.
