The Renault Kwid has not received any cosmetic updates since it went on sale in September 2015. The French carmaker finally plans to bring in a facelift for the Kwid. It will go on sale in September 2019.
The Kwid facelift has previously been spied while it was being tested. Externally, it will receive major cosmetic updates. It will also get additional features over the existing model. However, both the 800cc and 1.0-litre petrol engines will remain unchanged.
Renault will continue to offer the Kwid with BS4-compliant engines, like the upcoming Triber. The carmaker is yet to update its engines to meet the BS6 emission norms.
The upcoming Kwid will feature a redesigned front profile inspired by the electric Kwid sold in China, the City K-ZE. However, the overall style statement will remain the same. The DRLs will come on top with the headlamps placed lower on the bumper. The rear is expected to receive subtle updates as well with LED elements in the tail lamps.
The Kwid is expected to borrow the Triber’s instrument cluster and 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, both of which were first seen on the Kwid electric. The centre console of the Kwid could also be updated.
Safety equipment on the Kwid facelift will include dual-front airbags, unlike the driver-only airbag in the pre-facelift model. Renault could go ahead and offer up to four airbags like the Triber and the Brazil-spec Kwid too.
Upon launch, the new Kwid will rival the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, an upcoming hatchback with an SUV-like stance that is expected to go on sale in India by the end of next month. It will also continue to rival the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Datsun GO, among others.
