Karnataka Woman 'Raped By Man In Front Of His Wife, Forced To Convert': Report

A woman in Karnataka has accused a man of raping her in front of his wife. She has alleged the couple also forced her to convert by threatening her with the release of her explicit photos.

A woman has accused a man in Karnataka’s Belagavi of raping her in front of his wife, and alleged that the couple forced her to convert to Islam. An FIR has been lodged against seven people in connection with the case, according to an India Today report.

The 28-year-old woman has alleged in her complaint that she was told to wear a burqa and not allowed to wear ‘kumkum’.

Sexual Assualt On Woman In Belgavi

Prime suspect Rafik and his wife have been accused by the woman of using her explicit photos to blackmail her into complying with their demands such as forcing her to convert from Hinduism to Islam. In 2023, she was allegedly forced to move into the couple’s house in Belgavi where she was raped, the India Today report says. 

Caste-Based Torment 

Belagavi Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhimashankar Guleda told India Today that the woman was also forced to perform namaz five times a day. The couple would allegedly often use caste-based slur, and told her that she would have to convert "because she belongs to a backward caste". 

According to the report, the woman was also allegedly told to divorce her husband, and "warned" that her explicit photos would be leaked otherwise.

Based on the woman’s complaint, an FIR has been registered against seven people, who have been booked under the Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act, the IT Law, and the SC/ST Act. The FIR also invokes IPC sections pertaining to kidnapping, rape, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation.

Meanwhile, in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna, authorities have demolished a part of a 20-year-old man's house after he was arrested for allegedly raping and assaulting a female friend, reported PTI. The authorities said the demolished section of the house was illegal.

In her complaint, the 23-year-old victim said the man put instant glue into her eyes.

On Wednesday, she approached the police and alleged she had been living with accused Aayan Khan for 10 days. According to her, he turned violent when the woman asked him to marry her. He allegedly hurled abuse at her, beat her with a belt, and put glue into her eyes, reported PTI, citing the complaint. The official said Khan was arrested on Thursday, and was found to be carrying 60 litres of country liquor on his motorbike. He has been booked for alleged rape and assault, as well as under the Excise Act, a police official told PTI.
