Mumbai: BJP leader Ram Kadam on Tuesday hit out at popstar Rihanna for sharing a topless photo with a Lord Ganesh idol pendant. He wrote "@rihanna insults deities by wearing a pendant with Lord Ganesha naked". The MLA said that "the singer has conspired to insult Hindu deities by going topless and sporting a Lord Ganesha pendant. Will Congress support Rihanna for this or would protest?"

The Barbados-born US singer came under fire recently after she shared a tweet asking why the farmers' protest wasn't being talked about drawing international attention to the protest that has been going on since November 2020.

The Ministry of External Affairs had issued a statement after her tweet saying: "Before rushing to comment on such matters, we would urge that the facts be ascertained, and a proper understanding of the issues at hand be undertaken. The temptation of sensationalist social media hashtags and comments, especially when resorted to by celebrities and others, is neither accurate nor responsible."

Her tweet had triggered widespread outrage from Indians prompting many celebrities to question Rihanna's credentials and knowledge about India's internal matters.

This was followed by Greta Thunberg, the 18-year-old environmental activist who shared the same news story about internet shutdowns in Delhi. While sharing the news article, Greta said "We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India."

It is noteworthy, when asked to comment about the same, Rahul Gandhi said that the ongoing farmers' protest in our internal matter and government has to take back the three agri laws. "I have no reaction on this. This is our internal matter and all three laws must be taken back," said while speaking to reporters during a press conference.

Various international actors, artist and even U.S. VP Kamala Harris' niece Meena Harris posted on their social media showcasing their support to the farmers. Greta Thunberg continued her support and shared 'toolkit' meant for people to understand the protest but she later deleted and posted an updated 'toolkit'. Recently, the Cyber Cell of the Delhi Police arrested 21-year-old Disha Ravi from Bengaluru, for editing and distributing the contentious 'toolkit' accidentally leaked by Swedish Activist Greta Thunberg.
