Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has got a new pet. Gandhi, who returned to Delhi on Thursday from Goa, brought a three-month-old Jack Russell Terrier puppy from the coastal state.

Sharvani Pitre, who runs a dog kennel in North Goa's Mapusa, with her husband, Stanley Braganca, said that earlier this week they received a call from the Congress leader's office.

Pitra said the caller inquired about the availability of two short-legged Jack Russell Terrier puppies.

She said Gandhi had sent his representative earlier to inquire about the puppy and the Congress leader himself wanted to see before taking him. Gandhi visited the couple on Thursday at around 9 am while he was on his way to Manohar International Airport.

"We at Shade's are so honoured to have Rahul Gandhi ji at our residence. Gandhi exclusively flew down to Goa to have the puppies from the Best Litter in India, bred by @shades_jackrussells We are really overwhelmed and look forward to seeing you again," Pitre posted on Instagram with a photo of the Congress leader holding the Jack Russell Terrier puppy.

While Gandhi took with him one puppy, he has selected another one, which will be sent to him later, PTI reported.

"We breed several exotic breeds of dogs. We were told that he (Gandhi) had lost a pet (dog) recently…We did not know he would visit in person. It was a short visit. He came across as a humble and down-to-earth person. He chatted with us like a friend and had coffee. Most of the time, he was engrossed in playing and interacting with the dogs and selected two Jack Russell Terrier puppies," the Indian Express quoted Pitre as saying.
