Punjab News: Punjab Police has been successful in recovering huge quantities of explosives from Gurdaspur district ahead of Republic Day. The huge amount of explosives found in Punjab has created a stir. Punjab Police Inspector General of Police Mohnish Chawla told that the Punjab Police has recovered two 40mm compatible grenades, 3.79 kg RDX, 9 electric detonators, and 2 sets of IED timer devices along with a 40mm under-barrel grenade launcher from Gurdaspur district.
According to the information, UBGL is a short-range grenade launching area weapon with an effective range of 150 meters which can also be harmful to VVIP security. The recovery of explosives took place after disclosure by Malkit Singh, a resident of Ghazikot village in Gurdaspur, who was arrested by Gurdaspur police on Thursday on the basis of a tip off. Police have registered a case against Malkit Singh under the Terrorism Act and have registered a case against the co-conspirators, including Malkit Singh.
Cases filed against several conspirators-
Punjab Police IGP Mohnish Chawla said that the recovery was made by Gurdaspur police after the disclosure made by the arrested conspirator Malkit Singh. Apart from Malkit Singh, the police have registered a case against co-conspirator Sukhpreet Singh, Tharanjot Singh, Sukhmeetpal Singh, fugitive gangster Arshdeep Singh, and Pakistan International Sikh Youth Federation chief Lakhbir Singh Rode. After interrogating Malkit Singh, who was arrested by the Punjab police, it was found that Malkit Singh was in direct touch with Lakhbir Rode, the head of the International Sikh Youth Federation, and he had conspired with them.
It may be noted that Lakhbir Rode is a designated terrorist as per the UAPA Act. At the same time, the IGP said that the consignment of weapons and explosives was sent by Rode from Pakistan. It was found that Lakhbir Rode was also involved in the murder of Comrade Balwinder Singh at Bhikhiwind on October 16, 2020, besides the recovery of tiffin IED, RDX, arms, and ammunition from his relative Gurmukh Singh Rode from Jalandhar in August 2021.
