New Delhi: A clash broke out between two groups in Punjab’s Patiala near Kali Devi temple on Friday, after two groups who wanted to take out procession were stopped by the Police, after which they pelted stones while another group attacked with swords.
An SHO was injured in the scuffle while 3-4 police personnel were also wounded in the incident.
The Punjab Police said that the groups did not have the permission to take out the rally. "Seeing the problem of law and order here, police have been deployed. We are speaking with Shiv Sena's (one of the two groups) chief Harish Singla as they don't have any permission for the march," said the DSP.
Patiala Zone Inspector General, Rakesh Aggarwal told ABP News that the incident happened due to some mischievous elements and rumours. "We are doing a flag march in the city. People are appealed to avoid rumours. Police and civil administration have controlled everything. Tomorrow, a meeting of the Peace Committee has been called. People are requested to maintain peace," said the IG.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also reacted to the situation and said, "The incident of clashes in Patiala is deeply unfortunate. I spoke with DGP, and peace has been restored in the area. We're closely monitoring the situation & won't let anyone create disturbance in the State. Punjab’s peace and harmony is of utmost importance," news agency ANI quoted Mann as saying.
