Eid Al Fitr 2022: Muslims all over the globe celebrate Eid al-Fitr, also known as Eid Ul-Fitr or Meethi Eid or generally called Eid, indicating the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan (Ramzan or Ramadhan).
Eid al-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawaal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar, after the new crescent moon is sighted on the 29th or 30th of Ramadan.
Eid al-Fitr marks that after a month of fasting, from dawn to dusk, during Ramadan people can come back to their usual routine. To start the festivities of Eid al-Fitr Muslims offer, two Rakah of Salah (namaz), special prayers. The day is followed by meeting relatives, friends and people are invited over for feasts.

As per the central government's holiday calendar, May 3 has been marked as a holiday for Eid al-Fitr, however, the celebration will depend on the sighting of the new moon only.
This year in India the 29th of Ramadan falls on Sunday, May 1. If the crescent moon is sighted on Sunday evening, then Eid will be celebrated on Monday, May 2, else it will be celebrated on May 3.
The date of Eid changes every year as it follows the Hijri calendar, which is lunar-based. The start of any Islamic month begins on the new crescent moon when sighted.
Meanwhile, the duration for moon sighting after the sunset will be at least 40 minutes and a maximum of 89 minutes and the crescent could be clearly sighted in different parts of the if the weather remains clear.
